Art Exhibit @ Soule: "The Mountains Are Calling”
This exhibit of acrylic paintings by local artist Ginny DeLucia Donohue will be up May 1 – May 30, 2025, on the main floor of the library. Per the artist, “I love the mountains and discovered that I was a landscape painter at the age of 72. I told myself since 6th grade that I had no art talent… and then a Paint and Sip in Minnesota changed it all. Since I was learning during covid, it was online learning...tutorials by Bill Alexander, Bob Ross, Kevin Hill, Viktor Yushkevich opened a new joy for me. Then I made the leap to original paintings.” The paintings on display were either guided by those on-line tutorials or are original paintings. The title comes from a quote by John Muir: “The mountains are calling and I must go.”
About the artist: Ginny and her husband travel 4 months a year – towing an RV – to national parks. She feels great peace while painting or driving long distances. They have made eight, 2-month trips across the USA (north to south or east to west), with one trip to Nova Scotia towing an RV. Prior to retirement, Ginny founded On Point for College, an organization that helps individuals who are the first in their family to go to college. All proceeds from the sale of her paintings go to South Sudan Villages Clinic, founded by On Point for College grad Fidele Dhan, one of the “lost boys of South Sudan.” Ginny is a board member of this seven-room clinic, which has treated 56,000 patients in the last 5 years.
