Strawberry Social @ Soule In-Person
It's once again time for our favorite event of the year! Bring the whole family and help us welcome summer with an ice cream social on the library lawn. In addition to frozen treats, we will also have a used book sale, sidewalk chalk for kids (and kids at heart), and registration for our summer reading programs for children and adults. At 6:00 pm, we will have live music by Mark Zane and his daughter, Janiya. You may bring a lawn chair or blanket, if able (chairs will be provided for those who need them). Please bring cash and a reusable bag if you plan to shop at the book sale. Stay for a few minutes or the whole evening!
About the Band: Mark Zane was born and raised in the small rust belt city of Utica, NY and now calls its larger neighbor to the west, Syracuse, home. The struggle of life in old industrial cities can be heard in songs that appear on Mark's debut 2008 CD, “American Hunger”, which features a blend of folk, rock, and even a little country. “American Hunger” was nominated for a 2009 SAMMY (Syracuse-Area Music Award) award in the Americana category. His second CD, “Walk it Off”, was released in March 2012. His third CD, “Upstate Uprising”, was released in January 2019. His most recent CD, “Acoustic Truths & Electric Lies”, contains 11 original songs. Mark has written 143 songs and performs at least 45 of these live (along with performing cover songs).
Along with writing and performing music, Mark is also a Professor of Sociology at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse. In the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon, Steve Earle and others, Mark's original songs analyze American life through a sympathetic, yet sometimes, critical eye. He also writes and performs autobiographically inspired songs about love and aspirations, and everyday occurrences. Mark also performs cover songs from artists such as Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Bob Marley, Jethro Tull, Old Crow Medicine Show, Fleetwood Mac, and many more.
