Calling all genealogy enthusiasts!
City Directories & Local Clues: A Genealogist’s Hidden Treasure
Friday, January 23, 2026 • 10:00–11:00 a.m. (ET) • Zoom
City directories are more than just lists of names and addresses—they are rich snapshots of everyday life. Join Librarian Kate Kisselstein for an exploration of how city directories can help genealogists fill in gaps between census years, track families over time, and uncover valuable clues about occupations, neighborhoods, and community connections.
This program will highlight city directories available for Syracuse and Central New York, including print volumes and microfilm held in the Local History & Genealogy Department, as well as digitized directories accessible online through resources such as FamilySearch. Attendees will learn how to interpret directory entries, follow individuals year by year, and use directories alongside other records to build a fuller picture of their ancestors’ lives.
Whether you’re researching local roots or applying these techniques to another city, this session will equip you with practical tools for making the most of an often-overlooked genealogical resource.
📌 Registration required. A Zoom link will be included in your confirmation email.
